I wrote the word (Jihad) in my dictionary, and it said………………….Holy war.
As an Arabic speaker, I was simply dumbfounded !!! How in the world did people come up with this translation, that it would be actually used in dictionaries? It beats me !!!
First of all, Holy war translated to Arabic would be (حرب مقدّسة) (Harbun Muqaddasa) a two-words phrase, the noun Harb (war), with the adjective Muqaddas (holy). The Arabic word Jihad comes from the verb (جَهَدَ) (Jahada) which means: to make effort, to strife, to struggle. So Jihad (جهاد) is the noun of that verb. Meaning of Jihad is making effort, struggling, striving.
Now I want you to be the judge.
Holy war : (harbun muqaddasa) “حرب مقدسة” = holy war
Jihad : (jihad) “جهاد” = making effort
Now how can people mistake a word with a whole completely different phrase ?!
All I know is that, one of the powerful ways to control the mind, of course, after media and such other sneaky stuff, comes the most obvious, most effective way, just change the meaning of words! The word is a thought, and the thought is a word. Change words, change thoughts!
P.S. Those who have watched “Malcolm X”, or read “1984” by George Orwell would understand what I’m saying.
Scholars have defined the word (Jihad), that is mentioned in many places in the Noble Quran as: to strife against one’s enemies. Now here, you need to define the word enemy, which means: If someone is your enemy, he hates you or wants to harm you.
Striving against one’s enemies includes: 1-actual enemies who wage war against you of oppressors or persecutors, if you are unable to escape the persecution. “Fight in the cause of Allah those who fight you, but do not transgress limits; for Allah loves not transgressors.” Qur’an, Chapter 2, verse 190.
2-even one’s own self that is self-destructive! “The best jihad is (by) the one who strives against his own self for Allah, The Mighty and Majestic,” Hadith (sayings of the Prophet Muhammad).
None in these definitions refers to the religion of the enemy or race, which is the real meaning of a holy war that is to wage war against the followers of different religions.
And that would be ridiculous, because the 6 million Coptic Christians in Egypt and many other Christians in the Muslim lands has not been declared Jihad against!!! And they are here for centuries!!!
In fact in an authentic Hadith (saying) from the prophet the best example of Jihad is a very peaceful type of struggle. When asked: “‘What kind of jihad is better?’ the prophet replied, ‘A word of truth in front of an oppressive ruler!'”
